United Nations Partition Plan, 1947
On 29 November 1947 the United Nations (General Assembly Resolution 181), voted to terminate the British Mandate of Palestine and to partition the Mandate territory. The Resolution, adopted by the General Assembly by 33 votes to 13, with 10 abstentions, would have partitioned Palestine into Jewish and Arab states, with the Greater Jerusalem area coming under international control. The majority of the Jewish leadership accepted the decision. Without exception the Arab leadership, both within Palestine and without, rejected it.
