Religious intolerance and institutionalised inequality is a feature of every Middle Eastern country outside of Israel. Legalised discrimination exists everywhere, both against Non-Muslims and members of minority Muslim groups, such as the Shi’ites in Saudi Arabia.

Even mainstream Muslims are victims of religious intolerance, being subjected to severe penalties – including death – if they fail to live their lives according to strict Islamic law.
