Galut Edom - the Roman Exile - was to be the longest and most bitter that the Jewish people would have to endure. Israel fell under the sway of the Roman Empire in 63 BCE. On several occasions the Jews rose in revolt, most notably in 67-73 CE and 132-135 CE, but in the end were defeated, their cities destroyed and most of their surviving population expelled.
